Memo to Binghamton University Students

Current Students: Access the Fall 2008 schedule of classes (in a list/grid format similar to BUSI) via the new BU BRAIN portal using your PODS password. Once inside, use the CLASS LOOKUP tools on the "Home" tab, or the REGISTRATION TOOLS on the "My Courses" tab.

You are also able to access the public Detailed Schedule of Classes viewing option, which shows complete course detail in the search results.

As you have probably heard, we are introducing a new student system, available online through BU BRAIN at http://bubrain.binghamton.edu. The new system has many advantages, such as immediate registration, viewing your schedule in a calendar view, and searching for courses by instructor and time. BU BRAIN will be ready for student use beginning Monday, March 10.

It is important for you to go to BU BRAIN (http://bubrain.binghamton.edu) well ahead of registration and login using your pods user id and password. If you have any problems logging in, please report them to the help desk by phone (777-6420) or email (helpdesk@binghamton.edu).

Important items to note:

  • All students will need to complete the Code of Conduct acknowledgment process in the new system. Even if you completed it in the past in BUSI, we need to have you do it again one time in the new system. You do not need to complete this ahead of time. This will automatically appear when you first login.
  • You can view the schedule of classes for fall 2008 beginning March 10 by going to the My Courses tab at BU BRAIN and clicking on Look Up Classes. Students will register for fall courses from April 2 – May 9.
  • Starting on March 17th you can check your financial aid status for next year by going to the My Accounts tab at BU BRAIN.
  • Registration in the new system is very easy! If you would like to get a sneak peak at how the system works, go to http://banner.binghamton.edu/using.
  • Many student service personnel have seen the new system and can answer questions if you have them. Residence Hall Consultants (Res Cons), Discovery Assistants, advisers, and peer advisers are good people to check with for assistance. Also, be sure to check http://banner.binghamton.edu/using for quick registration tips, frequently asked questions and other useful information.
  • The old system, BUSI, is not going away completely until August. While registration for fall 2008 is in the new system, registration changes for the current (spring 2008) semester and registration for summer 2008 will be in BUSI.

In BU BRAIN, there are several things that are different from BUSI.

  • Registration is immediate. There is no need to save and verify your schedule the way you do in BUSI.
  • The class search function allows you to search by instructor and time.
  • You can view your schedule in a calendar format.
  • You can view greater detail about your registration status.

Other changes you should be aware of include:

  • Holds are cleared overnight. That means you should take care to clear any financial, health, or other holds a day ahead of when you can start registering.
  • The 18-credit hour registration limit applies to all undergraduate students, regardless of GPA, and includes all courses, even HPEY courses. Students can apply to take overloads through the advising office of their school.

We wish you the best as you plan and register for the fall 2008 semester.
