Internet Native Banner vs Self Service Banner

Internet Native Banner (INB) is the administrative forms-based version of Banner. It provides advanced access to student records, departmental registration, force registration, registration overrides (SFAREGS), course building tools and other advanced administrative functions. You are required to attend INB navigation training to receive access to these functions. Up to August 19th, 2008, only academic summary data is present in Banner. Users needing complete access to student history and academic history will continue to use CICS until this date. Users needing access to Fall 2008 registration will use Banner tools.

INB differs from Self Service Banner (SSB). Self Service is a web-based tool (accessed via BU BRAIN) that provides faculty and staff access to student major/minor data, academic profile summaries, students schedules, student registration history, student holds, transcripts, bio/demo data, and registration summaries. This is also where faculty tools are found, such as faculty course rosters and attendance sheets, course grading, student academic profile summaries, weekly teaching schedules, and teaching assignments. Faculty also have access to a week-at-a-glance tool, and can publish office hours and additional syllabus information.

This tool requires only a basic web browser. You do not need to request access to these services (SSB services), unless you need advanced access to ALL student records. All employees previously working with student records have been granted access to these services based on their former CICS roles. You can access these tools via BU BRAIN using the PODS password.

Prior to Requesting Internet Native Banner Access:

(1) Be assured you need INB access versus SSB access.

(2) Your supervisor must approve your request. Tell your supervisor to expect an email requesting them to approve the request.

SSB (Self Service) ACCESS NOTE: If you need additional SSB access (access to all student records and transcripts), or your current role does not reflect your CICS level of access you can request access here. If you have any questions about these functions, differences between the two systems, or where a function is found, feel free to contact us with your questions.
