Brief Description
In October of 2006 the
University purchased the Banner
Student Information System and associated software products
from Sungard Higher Education. The University plans to convert our current
legacy student system to Banner over the next two years as described
in the University's Long-Range
Information Technology Development Plan. The Banner project
includes implementation of the Banner Student System (including Banner
General, Student, Financial Aid, and needed portions of the Finance
modules), Operational Data Store, Luminis Portal, and Xtender Solutions
(document imaging).
The Benefits of Banner
Binghamton University is undertaking the Banner Project to gain the following benefits:
- Integrate and streamline the processing and delivery of student applications, financial aid, course registration, grades, and student billing.
- Move to a Banner identification number that is not related to the Social Security number.
- Ease the burden on our Computing Services department to support and maintain our student systems.
- Join other SUNY campuses in taking advantage of the systems support and software solutions provided by the SICAS Center (Student Information & Campus Administrative Systems) in Oneonta.
- Take advantage of the Luminis portal technology to make timely, personalized information, services, communication, and collaboration easily accessible to all constituents, anytime and anywhere.
- Move to a standard system for storing and managing scanned documents by deploying Sungard's Xtender solutions.
- Establish a system framework to position us to use new technologies as they develop in the future.
